MBFC: The Story So Far



Mighty Blackpool was founded in 1923, under the name Socro United. This was the first of many name changes until it's permanent name in 1953.


The Name, Mighty Blackpool

The club was bought from Pa Shams for 30pounds by the Ahmed Brothers. On the 25th March 1954, they changed the name from Sokro eleven to Mighty Blackpool which consisted mostly of the Kroo boys at Kroo Town road and the lorry apprentices of Ahmed Bros., who were in transportation business.


Champions of the Western Area

Mighty Blackpool, are Champions of the Western Area for the first time in their history. A competition which took place from 1923-1980.


First Sierra Leone FA Cup

Mighty Blackpool captures it’s first Sierra Leone FA Cup!


First National Championship

Mighty Blackpool was crowned Champions of Sierra Leone for the first time in 1968.


CAF Quater-Finals

In 1989 Mighty Blackpool reached the quarter-final stages of the African Cup of Champions Clubs; the first time a club from Sierra Leone had reached that stage. In the first round they beat reigning champions ES Sétif from Algeria and on the second round beat Djoliba Athletic Club from Mali, before losing to Tonnerre Yaounde from Cameroon in the quarter finals.



The supporters of the club and the elders of the club, decided to transform Mighty Blackpool into a private corporate entity, in order to secure the long term success of the club.
